MAC masquerade in TMOS 11

i was looking at MAC Masquerade on a TMOS 11 box. noticed that it moved from being configurable on a VLAN towards being configurable on a traffic group. so when i put all my VLANs in one traffic group then the MAC address will be the same on all VLANs right?

haven't had time to test this, but it feels like this can cause issues.

Help on device doesn't mention it, documentation on askF5 isn't updated yet, has anyone experience with this? did you encounter issues?

  • i think it is pretty common. the following is from sol12724.

multiple VLANs can safely share the same MAC address as long as your other network devices support a per-VLAN MAC address table. This allows those devices to learn the same MAC address on multiple VLANs without issue. This is a very common feature.sol12724: MAC address assignment for interfaces, trunks, and VLANs
