F5 LTM LOAD BALANCING

Hi All,

I have a VIP configured on F5 LTM and observing uneven traffic across the pool members. The load balancing method configured is round robin but the requests are going unevenly.

VIP has 4 servers: SERVER 1-- Observing High Traffic SERVER 2-- Observing High Traffic SERVER 3 -- Observing low traffic SERVER 4 -- Observing low traffic

Persistence value of 60 seconds is configured on the VIP. Each server has 3 instances in the pool and total requests going to each server are as below:

SERVER CURRENT CONNECTIONS

1 44

2 89

3 14

4 28

Please advise what is the best way to troubleshoot further on this?? How do I justify that the RR load balancing method is working fine?

Thanks in advance.

Regards, Vineet

  • Hi Vineet, Because of persistence connection with oneconnect profile, it will show uneven traffic. So it is showing like this. If you want troubleshoot then reset 2nd server for some time. New session will be served to rest of the server.

The point being is if you give it a bit of time the pools should even out.

  • So should I reach on a conclusion that CMP enabled with persistence ON will never make the load even on servers?

i think it depends on traffic pattern. traffic can be evenly distributed when traffic volume is high enough and varying.
