The statement from F5 is the case for all vendors. 3rd party SFP's are not supported.
In real live it should work and maybe you will never face a problem. But what happens when you encounter strange behaviour on your network? What happens when you change something in your network (not on F5) and suddenly you have issues you cannot explain?
Best advise is to use a supported setup in you production environment. This means software, configuration and also hardware.
