Upgrading 10.2.1 to 10.2.4

Hi Everyone

I have some question about upgrading 10.2.1 into 10.2.4.

Here is my BIG-IP settings

1. Active / Standby Mode

2. have vlan failsafe

3. use only hardwire failover

here is a question

1. Must I unplug hardwire failover before upgrading?

2. Must I clear vlan failsafe (of both unit) before upgrading?

3. Can I just >> Install version 10.2.4 in standby unit >> reboot >> force to standby at Active unit >> Install version 10.2.4 in Standby unit >> reboot >> failback >> Finished ?

Thank you

  • 1. Must I unplug hardwire failover before upgrading?it is not mandatory.

    2. Must I clear vlan failsafe (of both unit) before upgrading?it is best practice to disable vlan failsafe while upgrading.

    3. Can I just >> Install version 10.2.4 in standby unit >> reboot >> force to standby at Active unit >> Install version 10.2.4 in Standby unit >> reboot >> failback >> Finished ?i think you should verify the first 10.2.4 unit before upgrading the second one.
  • Thank you very much

    last question

If I use hardwire failover& network failover (use ip management) and want to upgrade from 10.2.4 to 11.2.1 (because HA system is change so)

    1. Must I unplug hardwire & clear network before upgrading?

    2. In 11.2.1 , If I have both HW & Network failover, Failover will occur when HardWire & NW failover cannot detect their signal. right?

    Thank you

  • 1. Must I unplug hardwire & clear network before upgrading?generally network failover won't work when upgrading major version (e.g. 10.x to 11.x) but hardware failover still works (i.e. can control active/standby state) because it does not use heartbeat packet. actually, disabling/unplugging network failover is to prevent service interruption (e.g. active/active situation) while upgrading. if you disconnect all network cables from one of units, even units go active/active it won't cause service interruption.

    2. In 11.2.1 , If I have both HW & Network failover, Failover will occur when HardWire & NW failover cannot detect their signal. right?hardware failover has higher precedence. failover should not happen while upgrading.
