Booting from 11.2.1 into 11.3 loses latest config

Hi all, I've just booted from 11.2.1 into 11.3 and lost a load of config changes. When I booted back to 11.2.1, they re-appeared.

Can someone explain what is going on with the configs here, and what the most common steps would be to avoid this? Is it a case of saving the config, moving it, rebooting, moving back and the loading the config? Seems a bit long winded just for "keeping" my current config.

Any info would be appreciated

Thanks

  • was there any error showing in 11.3.0?

by default, configuration will be forwarded when installing.

Could be something in the config it doesn't like. Seen it in the past on almost every upgrade for some sites... Thinks like an unmatched '{' commented out in an iRUle can do it for various versions. Sometimes it can just be something a little weird that doesn't translate too well between versions

Grab your 11.2.1 ucs file from backup and try to restore it on 11.3... Do you get errors when it restores are tries to load (probably the easiest way to debug WHAT is going wrong).

  • Thanks Hamish & nitass,

There were no errors on boot up, although reverting seems to have caused a problem with 1 of the 4 LTMs (I will deal with that issue seperately). It looks like booting back into the 11.2.1 has got all the config items back, so I will make sure I do the save config, reboot 11.3, load config process and see what happens from there.

    Thanks again,

  • I ran into the same issues when testing on my new 2200's. I found this https://devcentral.f5.com/community/group/aft/1178622/asg/52 which seemed to do the trick for me. What I found odd was I needed to do this when going from 11.2.1 to 11.3 but not 11.3 to 11.4.

To be specific my active partition was 1.1 running 11.2.1 and I was trying to boot to 1.2 with 11.3.0 so I issued the cpcfg HD1.2 command.

  • Thanks Xfactor - I had found that post earlier, but will have a closer look and perhaps play with the cpcfg command.

  • I used the cpcfg command yesterday before booting into 11.3.0 HF6 and it seemed to have worked out ok!

Thanks for your help on this everyone
