GTM not acquire the Virtual Server of LTM

Hi comunity! This is my first easy infrastructure with a GTM on the head and two LTM. The 2 LTM have some Virtual Server. I have used the f5 "BIG-IP® Global Traffic Manager™:Implementations" guie. The problem is that the GTM not acquire the VS of the LTM. Fast answer for question:

  • -all f5 have the 1.5.1 version and the same big3d agent installed (i've used the command "tmsh run gtm big3d_install "
  • -Vlans of all f5 are on "allow all"
  • -i've done the "bigip_add" on the GTM with the ip of all the LTM selfIp (not the mng)

I have read the Logs on GSLB tab, and i see that the LTM answer with a "Sending a message to :47625", but on the GTM i see "getconfig_put: Could not find my own box, will not continue with auto discovery" :/

Can anyone help me? Thank, Alberto

  • Wondering if this could be your issue:

i need that the GTM auto-discover the VS on the LTM because i can't manage the LTM.

I've selected "Virtual Server Discovery > Enabled"

  • Are you using any NAT on your virtual servers like is described in the solution article I linked? If so, then it sounds like you've done all of the necessary steps to enable virtual server auto discovery, but you may be encountering a known issue that prevents it from working. If you wanted to confirm this, you could open a support case.

No, all the machine are on the same network. The only difference is on the interface. The internal interface of all the machines are on a subnet, different from all the external. I don't think that this is a problem, they comunicate without problem. On the GTM i see servers (LTM) up, but not acquire the VS.

I have already reseted the f5 machine 3 times. I have redo all the configure using the f5 guide, but the issues were the same.

It's possible that i've encountered the problem all time? :/

  • The issue that the solution describes pertains to the LTM virtual servers themselves.

So you have an internal network between your GTM and your LTMs that they communicate over. Is it accurate to say that your GTM doesn't provide these internal network addresses associated with your LTM virtual servers to external clients that are querying it? Client queries should be answered with an external address which is translated somewhere in your network, possibly on a firewall. If this is the case, then the known issue I linked above could still be the problem.

The problem is before the DNS configuration.

I have only implemented Server (LTM) and DataCenter on my GTM. (and the base configuration with Vlans, SelfIp and Route)

The problem born immediatly when i create the Server. I see it up (with default "bigip" monitor).

  • Your best bet is to open a case for support to confirm or deny that you're encountering a known issue.

    Problem solved.

The solution is: add the GTM (himself) in the DataCenter that contains the LTM.

    Bye, Alberto

Thanks for posting this. I was having the same issue and my google search brought me here. I'm not sure I understand why this is needed, but it seems to do the trick.
