Reprovision Viprion for vCMP and move current config to one guest

What is the best way to take my running Viprion with config, and provision vCMP and make a copy to a new guest?

  • Hi,

If you want to copy you guest configurations on new guest following this procedure.

    1. Take UCS backup of present guest
    2. Login to new guest and configure management IP and default root
    3. Once basic configuration is done copy the UCS file to the new guest
    4. Import the UCS file without a license tmsh load /sys ucs no-license

Please let me know any more information is required.

UCS is platform specific and extracting UCS on other type of platform has very high chances to fail loading. This is mainly related to bigip_base.conf where vlan, IP, interfaces configuration is set.

It is better to get single configuration file (SCF), edit it accordingly and then load on the guest. Next option can also help you with migration in case if you have HA configured. Configure basic stuff like vlans, ips etc on the guest then sync config from the peer.

  • Hi,

If it is for a new guest on the same host and if you are going to use same network configurations, please go ahead and use UCS file.

I currently do not have any guest. vCMP is currently not provisioned. When I provision vCMP, will the network settings stay? I will be using the same networks and configuration on the first guest for the time being and laster move some things to the second guest.

So, of the 2 options, UCS or SCF, which would be the best? What kind of cleanup would I need to do?

I am currently and will be doing HA. I have 2 chassis
